Maithili is one of the 22 national (scheduled) languages of India spoken in north Bihar and Nepal. We at JNU's Special Center for Sanskrit Studies started working on Maithili language processing tools and lexical resources in 2009 with a funding from DIT under the project Shallow Parser Tools for Indian Languages (SPT-IL) With the help of project staff and research students, we have developed the following tools and resources so far - • Maithili corpora • Verb paradigm generator • Inflectional paradigm builder for nouns • Derivational Paradigm builder for nouns • POS Tagger • Maithili-English Dictionary interface • Devanagari-Wx Transliterator • Dictionary/frequency builder tool • U.C generation tool • BIS Annotation tagset for Maithili(done by CIIL,Mysore)
